UNILAG has produced 292 professors and 200,000 graduates since inception - VC
Prof. Rahamon Bello, the outgoing
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has said that within the
last 55 years of the institution’s establishment a total of 292 professors and
more than 200,000 graduates of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes,
have been produced.
Bello also added that a total of 104 professors and 50,785
graduates amounting to 35 percent and 25 percent of the figures respectively,
were produced within the last five years that he has served as the university’s
vice-chancellor.
The vice-chancellor spoke at a media briefing as part of
activities to mark the end of his six-year single tenure of office, which is
due to lapse on Friday, November 10. Bello, who said he was relieved to be
passing the baton of leadership to his successor and current Deputy
Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, noted that
his major challenges while in office included funding and infrastructural
decay.
